internship
I did my internship at the Catholic Community Center (CCS) over the summer. One month of my internship has gone by and I have learned what the purpose of the CCS is. There are three sectors of the CCS whose objectives are different. Firstly, there are the Job Developers, the job developers seek out occupations for the client which suits his experience and is in accordance with his beliefs. For example, a Muslim would not be recommended to work at a restaurant where pork and alcoholic beverages are served. Second, are the Case Managers, their job is to send the clients (who are refugees) to the United States and prepare them with a Social Security Card, Green Card, Housing, Utilities, etc. Simply, the Case Managers try to make it so that the clients (refugees) can live in the U.S. They could not provide the clients only on the condition of if the client ever committed a felony and would have to clear it up with the judge. Finally, there is the Medical Department, who deal with the clients or their relatives who have serious conditions. Most medical conditions are their eyes and ears. The eyes suffer blindness from cataracts or failure of sustaining their eyes with vitamins. The ears would have infections from early age that was never tended to. My part with the CCS has been working mainly with Case Managers in order to interpret questions in documents, resumes, and rules and regulations about living in the U.S. to people who come from Somalia. Another activity I was involved was working on files about the client with the Case Managers, how many people in the family, copy of their social security, intake, whether they are on Match Grant or R & P, etc. But I have to say working with the Job Developers is more productive, I would make applications and resumes about the clients, I am given their information and I accomplish their tasks. The Case Managers I have worked with are Suhad Khudhair, Leul Mengistu, and Kamal Katani. The Job Developers I have worked with are Wisam Khudhair, Matthew Melville, and Brittany Mcleod.
